Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA)

EUReCA 2010The Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA) is a two-day exhibition and performance event for students. In 2009, a total of 250 students entered 183 research and creative projects. The event is sponsored by the UTK Office of Research and the UTK Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. The event provides opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in research and the development of creative products under the direction of a faculty mentor. EURēCA participants present their works during the annual EURēCA competition, held in the University Center. Students, as individuals or as groups of two or more, enter their projects into competition within one of several divisional units. CASNR students enter competition in either the Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (ASNR) or Engineering (Biosystems Engineering students) divisions.

Five years ago, the UT Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta embarked on a new effort to encourage CASNR students to participate in the EURēCA (formerly EURCA) competition. During the 2007- 2008 reporting year, the membership removed the cap (first 10 CASNR students) and decided to award all first place winners up to 200 entrants. Additionally, GSD provides a $100 cash award to the division winners in both the CASNR and Engineering divisions. The membership also decided that they would like to support as many CASNR/Engineering winners as possible awarding one $50 award per ten entries. Students participating in the event were invited to attend and recognized at the Spring Initiation and Awards Reception.
