GSD

Organized with 70 charter members, the University of Tennessee Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta was chartered on June 4, 1964.
Its membership includes undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the College of Agricultural Sciences and
Natural Resources (CASNR) and the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).

Activities and Projects

 

  • Career Workshop for Undergraduate Students Career Workshop for Undergraduate Students The chapter initiated a highly successful Career Workshop to assist undergraduate and graduate students with career preparation in 2009. The now annual workshop is held in advance of the UT Job Fair and CASNR Career Fair in order to help student get resumes ready and prepare to meet with company representatives at these fairs. Gamma Sigma Delta planned the workshop and provided lunch.
  • CEM & PH Research Symposium CEM & PH Research Symposium Our chapter provides sponsorship for the GSD Award for Excellence in Agricultural & Related Sciences presented to the individualty that represent Gamma Sigma Delta’s high standards of scholarship in agricultural and related sciences.
  • Enrichment Grant: Indian Mound Adopt-a-Spot Enrichment Grant: Indian Mound Adopt-a-Spot After receiving a Chapter Enrichment Grant for plant identification and signage for an area of the Ag Campus known as the Indian Mound, further site development has blossomed. Our chapter plans to adopt the area to not only maintain the site but to further enhance the area by installing native plants and other site appropriate features. This area receives faculty, staff, student and visitor traffic and will bring recognition to the Chapter.
  • Officials Dedicate Native American Interpretive Garden on Agriculture Campus Officials Dedicate Native American Interpretive Garden on Agriculture Campus University of Tennessee President Joe DiPietro, former President and Distinguished Professor of Science Jan Simek, Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Michell Hicks and others dedicated the Native American Interpretive Garden on the UT Institute of Agriculture campus in Knoxville.
  • Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA) Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA) The Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA) is a two-day exhibition and performance event for students. As a service project, GSD supports the EURēCA program by awarding the first 10 registered participants from CASNR or CoE as well as the winner an unrestricted cash award. This year's participants and winner were recognized during the spring reception.

Photography Contest
Use your talent to show who we are and what we do in a photo competition hosted by Gamma Sigma Delta. Top winners will receive prizes and entries will be shown at GSD's spring initiation ceremony, on the UTIA website and in publications.
