Knoxville, TN, July 21, 2026 — Gamma Sigma Delta, Tennessee RiverLine, and One Health recently partnered to host a successful Third Creek Kayak Clean-Up, bringing together volunteers dedicated to protecting local waterways and strengthening environmental stewardship across the region.
The event highlighted the organizations’ shared commitment to improving water quality, enhancing wildlife habitat, and encouraging community engagement through hands-on conservation efforts. Third Creek is an important tributary within the Tennessee River watershed, supporting diverse aquatic ecosystems and contributing to the overall health of the region’s waterways.
A total of 14 participants joined the effort, working collaboratively by kayak and on foot to remove litter and debris from the creek corridor. Volunteers collected a variety of waste materials, helping improve the appearance and ecological condition of the waterway while preventing debris from traveling downstream into the Tennessee River.
“Projects like this demonstrate the impact that community volunteers can have on our local environment,” said Dr. Bruno Pedreira, Service Chair for Gamma Sigma Delta. “By working together, we not only improve our waterways but also raise awareness about the importance of protecting these valuable natural resources for future generations.”
In addition to removing trash, participants had the opportunity to observe the creek’s natural beauty and gain a greater appreciation for the role local streams play in supporting regional biodiversity. The event also provided a chance for volunteers from different backgrounds and organizations to build connections while contributing to a common cause.
The success of the July 21 clean-up reflects the ongoing partnership between Tennessee RiverLine, Gamma Sigma Delta, and One Health. Together, the organizations remain committed to fostering environmental responsibility and creating opportunities for community members to become active stewards of local waterways.
The partners extend their gratitude to all volunteers who participated and helped make the event a success. Through continued collaboration and service, these organizations look forward to future clean-up events that support a healthier and more resilient Tennessee River watershed.
